Bloody Windows XP

Now, a few days ago, my PC decided that it didn’t feel like starting up, it reset the second the black ‘Starting XP’ screen appeared.

So, I thought, fair enough, I would be able to stick the XP CD in and choose Repair, apparently not. all right, I cant repair it, but I should be able to install XP again on top of the existing installation, without removing all my files, wrong again. Apparently you cant install XP onto a hard drive without formatting it first!

I even decided, fair enough, I’ll stick my hard drive into one of the other pc’s, didn’t work either, yep I had decided to activate ‘Encrypt my files and folders’ and disable System Restore (Due to it taking up 3GB of space) 4 days before it decided to totally screw up!

So what caused the problem? Could it have been a virus? Maybe, Could it have been a fecked up Windows Update? Probably, since it has a habit of updating everytime i connect to the internet. Needless to say I have now disabled System Restore.

On the plus side, I have discovered why my PC would never output Dolby 5.1 surround sound, despite being capable of doing so, I hadn’t installed the drivers previously – Woops 🙂

Anyway, let this be a lesson to you all, Disable Windows Update, Disable ‘Encrypt files and folders’ and leave System Restore enabled 🙂
